Friends, Family, & Supporters:
Thank you so much for your tremendous support since I began my first run for San Francisco School Board. As a first-time candidate, I made a good showing of 52,000 votes (up from an Election Night tally of 32,000). Though I did not win this time around, I am well -positioned for next time, in 2 years.
I am so very grateful to the hundreds of people who made my campaign possible. First, to my family, who knew that I was following my dream; second, to my friends, who were, in many cases, making political donations for the very first time. I would also like to thank my campaign manager, Ryan Chamberlain of Seed Outreach, my field director Anthony Colello, and my voter data guru David Latterman, all of whom were willing to take on the campaign of an unknown, first-time candidate, when no one else would. My volunteer campaign manager was Norm Ishimoto who was with me every step of the way, as was my volunteer campaign assistant Stacey Hoang and volunteer campaign treasurer Jeff Eng. My campaign advisory team consisted of Caryl Ito, Sandy & Jeff Mori, Allen Okamoto, Myrna & Will Tsukamoto, and Rich Wada who were most generous with their time and resources. I also had the benefit of advice from Dr. Renee Golanty-Koel, and dozens of other political insiders.
It was an incredible privilege to have your extraordinarily generous financial support. Many of you gave twice and sometimes three time to my campaign. This support enabled me to be invited to over 50 endorsement meetings and candidates fora, to reach 20,000 voters by mail, and to be a viable candidate. And I am especially proud of the many high profile endorsements I received. Inevaluating my campaign for next time, I would say that I need to start earlier, raise even more money, and, in particular, organize volunteer help to maximize voter contact. The candidates who won, Norman Yee (incumbent), Sandy Lee Fewer, Bobby Lopez, and Rachel Norton, all were able to take full advantage of volunteer support. Notwithstanding, dozens of folks really stepped up these last 2 weeks to phone bank with me and from home, walk a few precincts, stand at grocery stores handing out flyers, and e-mail friends and colleagues to vote for me. I will need to grow this team next time.
Finally, I am so proud of what I have been able to accomplish. I believe myself to be the first Japanese American woman to run for San Francisco SchoolBoard and I am prepared to run again, with your help. Again, I can't thank you enough for investing in me. I remain,
Forever grateful,
Emily |
